Here’s a look at some Urban events happening in our city this weekend!

THURSDAY

1.

Roi Heenok

This Thursday, Montreal rapper Roi Heenok will be performing at Cabaret Underworld. You can also enjoy performances from Saincere and Dee Lucci, BNG from Maarz Music and view Soldier Brand‘s Spring 2014 collection, all for $20.

Catherine Major

Also this Thursday, at popular Saint Laurent club Club Soda, a major event will be taking place. The highly poetic, vocalist and pianist Catherine Major (see what I did there), will be headlining a concert which also features Les Gourmandes, a colourful group of four (4) talented, young women who write, compose, sing and incorporate beats, their hands and feet to make vibrant music.

Flood the gates at 7 pm, be seated/stood in place by 8 pm!

Osmosis Unlimited

Rounding out the Thursday night package is an explosive Ska and Reggae-infused show starring the bands Osmosis Unlimited, The Skinny and Los Skallywags! It all goes down at  Coopérative du Café Chaos for only $5.

If you are in for a good ole fashioned Ska party, head on over to the event page and let them know you’re coming!

Stop by the cafe at 8 pm and get ready to bounce your head, swing your hands up and down and move your feet and hips from side to side!

FRIDAY

Slow Wine

Let’s slow down the tempo from Ska, as VIP Montreal Club, UCTV and Dope Party present Slow Wine Part 2 at Pure Nightclub (metro Berri) this Friday.

From 10:30 pm – 3 am, get down to Dancehall, Zouk-Kompa, R&B, Hip-Hop and scratching by DJ’s Kwite Sane, Shutah, Golden and Shawtime.

The event is FREE for women and $5 for men before 11 pm. Between 11 pm and 12 am, it’s $5 for women and $10 for men. See the page for details and to reserve VIP tables.

SATURDAY

1.

Thomasity

Interested in a night of live Funk music? The National Treasure Series presents BBAM! Weekend: Thomasity!, a super funked out show starring musicians like Thomas Harris on Drums, Peter Santiago on Bass, Mark Robertson on Guitar and Gary Lindner on the Keyboard. The show also features John Acer on Guitar, Aaron Doyle on Trumpet and Giovanny Arteaga on the Saxophone.

These skilled and seasoned musicians will play together at BBAM! Gallery, an Art Gallery and performance venue on Saint Jacques Street (metro Lionel-Groulx) dedicated to local independent visual and performance Artists. The show starts at 3 pm, so come out early.

Kings High full Kings High

This Saturday, it’s going DOWN at Le Belmont, as Real Life and FTP present Kings High, the Zero Gravity and Between Time album launch of the highly anticipated EP’s from CeasRock and Full Course respectively.

The night promises stellar performances not only from Full Course and Ceasrock but also from Montreal’s L.E.S., Northern Lights (NL5) and Chicago’s Mick Jenkins. The evening’s Host is none other than The Narcicyst and Simahlak will be spinning throughout the night. Special shout out to Mook Life, Escape MTL, Cult MTL, Labnoise and CKUT for their collaboration.

For information on how to purchase tickets ($20), go to the event page. Each of the first 100 ticket holders gets an awesome, black ‘Kings High’ tuque on the night. Don’t miss it; show begins at 10 pm.

Descalso with Clay and Friends

As if this picture wasn’t a dead giveaway, it’s that time again for some Reggae fusion and Hip Hop at Descalso! with Clay and Friends! Catch the group and their friends at M Montreal this Saturday at 10 pm for live music and great tunes. They definitely know how to put on a show!

Let them know you’ll be passing through, here.

It’s a mere $5 at the door.

SUNDAY

1.

A Burning Light

Also at BBAM! Gallery this weekend is BBAM! presents Gospel Blues with John Kerkhoven and Friends, BBAM!’s first Gospel Blues Sunday led by acoustic, blues singer and instrumentalist John Kerkhoven and also soulful Jazz and Blues performers Patrick Hutchinson and Paul Serralheiro.

The event is FREE however, drop whatever you can in the hat, to support the efforts of the musicians and time they’re taking to deliver these quality performances. This is an afternoon event from 3 – 4 pm, not 3:15 or 3:20, so try not to be late.

BBAM! Gallery is complete with a cafe offering a variety of coffees, lattes and the like as well as juices. For more on BBAM! Gallery, check out their website.

Blues and Gospel music, drinks and FREE; sounds like a great spiritual deal to me!

Expansoma

Last but certainly not least is the Expansoma Music, Art and Health Festival at Café Campus, also happening this Sunday! Come out to see The Ben Cardilli Band, The Fuzzy Bees, Who’s Driving & Engines of Peace and more for only $10 (in advance).

Show starts at 7 pm so get your Gospel/Blues music on with John Kerkhoven and Friends, schmooze for a bit and then head over to the Expansoma Festival to experience various genres of music, Art and a range of activities in store. This includes guest speakers, health talks, live painting and the list goes on, as well as DJ King Arthur on the turntables.

ALL WEEKEND LONG AND BEYOND

Liv3

Every Friday, check out LIV3 Fridays at popular nightclub Arena Montreal where you can undoubtedly dance all night (actually from 10 pm to 3 am) to Dancehall, Hip Hop and R&B hits.

DJ’s Payce, Kidd, The Almighty Chops, Xclusiv and Dk will be your best friends for the evening, as they’ll keep playing the urban bangers one after the next!

Le Piano Rouge

Also, for those looking for a whole lot of R&B/Soul, check out Old Montreal’s hit Lounge and Restaurant Le Piano Rouge for all their live music shows up to November 17th!

This weekend from Wednesday (13th) through Sunday (17th) respectively, Kaisha Lee, Snooksta, Coco Thompson, Carlos Morgan and Nicolas Hébert will entertain the Le Piano Rouge crowd!

Normally, performances run from Sunday to Saturday. Sunday to Wednesday, shows are from 9 pm – 1 am. Thursday to Saturday, there are two sets of performance times, first, from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm and then 10 pm – 1 am.

Also on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the lounge transforms into a nightclub where different DJ’s turn up the volume each night, between 1 am and 3 am.

Doors open at 7 pm!

The Our City Radio Montreal Urban team supports all sorts of urban events happening in our city, so if you can, show your support too and spread the word!
