Giving you the best of Montreal’s Urban community and beyond!
Here’s a look at some Urban events happening in our city this weekend!
This Thursday kicks off in style with URBAN METRIC, a fashion event at Le Piano Rouge, featuring the new men’s collection from contemporary fashion brand NemräC Style. In collaboration with Le Piano Rouge and Mangiafoco, NemräC Style designer Carmen Popescu, rolls out the Red Carpet for the launch and proudly presents the geometric line influenced by urban life and well, the awe-inspiring species called man!
The night, which begins at 8 pm, boasts sophistication as you are urged to dress to impress and if you’ve ever wanted to feel like a celebrity for a night, here’s your chance, as the paparazzi will be in full effect. An exposition of a series of photos related to the collection will be your first look into what made the line come alive and will be followed by the Show itself, unraveling the complex story of the inter-relations of Man, Fashion and NemräC Style. Feel free to share your thoughts on what you see, in a brief discussion which will follow the Show and look forward to a live concert by curvy, Rwandan songstress Nicole Musoni. None other than DJ Dr. Mad will be spinning throughout the night and if you’ve never witnessed his mastery, you’re in for a real treat.
All in all the night celebrates fashion, Art, design and the immense talent within our city, so let’s do what we can to support!
Also this Thursday, Vendetta Management and Entertainment presents a showcase of Montreal’s raw talent at WE REBEL starring Hip Hop Artists Travis Nicols, Taigenz, Purpsy Purps. Also set to perform are Beatbox RJ and Woods and it’s all going down at popular Ste. Catherine spot Piranha Bar.
Doors open at 7 pm and the show gets underway at 8 pm. Entry is $5 with tickets, $8 at the door.
Don’t forget to join the event here!
Get pumped up by Beatbox RJ in this insanely good video!
Break out the confetti machines because the urban community has got some celebrating to do! It’s the one year anniversary of HIP HOP KARAOKE MONTREAL (HHK MTL) and we’re extremely excited over here at Our City Radio Montreal Urban. Congratulations are in order, first of all, to the entire HHK MTL team for the amazing job they’ve done with this event while maintaining quality, caliber and unmatchable style during this time.
Feel like partying with the team and its many supporters? Just come out to Le Belmont, the place to beat, for a night where Hip Hop culture reigns! This special ‘Greatest Hits’ edition, will not only explore the greatest Rap bangers of all time, whether classic or current (Kendrick I see you), but will also be showcasing the most epic HHK MTL acts over the past year!
You know the drill but just in case we have new readers (always a pleasure), here’s how you can sign up. Also, you may participate in deciding the winner of the People’s Choice Award, one of many awards being handed out to the best performers of HHK MTL’s 2012-2013 year.
Doors open starts at 10 pm and the show runs until about 3 am. No need for the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal!

When you listen to Jjanice+’s music, you may not know the exact words to describe what it sounds like. Some say Soul, some say Indie Rock, others say Electro Pop or maybe his Haitian roots add to a deeply Afro-Caribbean sound you may also hear. Whatever you concoct, it’s probably a little bit of that and so much more.
This Saturday Jjanice+ is launching his newest album PIERROT COULEUR at Bibliothèque de Parc-Extension. Entertainment will also be provided by Jjanice+ himself as well as DJ’s Engone Endong and Sugarface Nene and the outstanding guitarist Kim Ho from the group Creature.
Best of all, it’s FREE. So get your groove on to the sounds of Jjanice+ and buy his album! Support local, French, urban music!
For more, check out the event page.
This Saturday also means that the fourth edition of CAN I GET A SOUL CLAP 2013, an intense three day spectacle of art, performances, dance and music will be on display in the form of street dancing competitions, street wear, a fashion show, an art auction and dance workshops by local and international judges.
The staple of an event like this is surely the battle between the b-boys and b-girls (crews of 5) and the “3 on 3 All Styles” competitions. Cash prizes are $1000 and $600 respectively. If only I could do b-girl tricks! Oh right, there will be workshops on Thursday and Saturday, so I could just try one of those.
Ok I’m back on track. If you’re wondering how much this extravaganza costs, it’s not such a simple answer because there are so many activities going on between Thursday and the main event on Saturday, that it’s best you check out their Facebook page for ALL the ticket information, times, packages, prizes, you name it!
There will be lots to see and do, so check out Can I Get A Soul Clap at the expansive Stereo Montreal and let us know what you thought!
It’s that time again where Spazztic Ear Honey brings us another crazy, wacky, fun and cool event. This time it’s called PUNK vs. HIP HOP and it’s also at Piranha Bar this coming weekend. You probably think you know exactly what this event is about, but you’re in for a surprise.
Last year’s FOLK vs. ELECTRO event was such a hit, they decided to switch it up and bring a different flavour this time around. So for only $7, Spazztic gives you the best of the best in terms of bands, local crews and Artists from both worlds (genres) like Ol’ School Johnny, Douglas Fam, Society’s Ills and Clarity.
Also helping to keep the crowd alive will be Vincent Pryce for the Hip Hop enthusiasts and Yellowshades reppin’ for all the Punk fans. Check out more details about this event here. Show starts at 10 pm.
Whaddu’ say? Are you #TeamPunk or #TeamHipHop? Let us know!
